James and the Starry Night
Little James, the moon is high,
Silver glows across the sky,
Twinkle stars in velvet deep,
While the world is fast asleep.
Gentle light through window beams,
Dancing on your soft moon-beams,
James, the night sings soft and low,
Stars above begin to glow.
Cradled warm, so safe, so near,
Starlight watches from up here,
Sleep now, babe, till morning's new—
The sky above shines just for you.

What does the name James mean?
Origin — Hebrew, via Latin
From the Late Latin Iacomus, a variant of Iacobus, from the Hebrew Ya’aqov (Jacob).
Where sources disagree: Genesis reads Jacob as “heel-holder” or “supplanter” because he was born gripping his brother’s heel; philologists more often read the name as a shortened form of “may God protect”. The biblical explanation is a wordplay, not a derivation.
We follow the standard reference works on given names, and we say so plainly when a meaning is unsettled rather than choosing the prettiest one.
