A Nursery Rhyme for Penelope
A free, original lullaby written just for the name Penelope — ready to read tonight or turn into a keepsake poster.
Penelope's Starry Night
Little Penelope, soft and small,
The moon hangs silver over all,
A blanket stitched with diamonds bright,
To guard you through the velvet night.
The stars above begin to gleam,
They whisper low a gentle dream,
Each twinkle sings a lullaby,
As clouds drift slowly, soft and shy.
Penelope, rest your tiny head,
The night sky tucks you in bed,
With glowing light so warm and near,
The universe holds you, my dear.

What does the name Penelope mean?
Origin — Greek
The name of Odysseus’s wife in the Odyssey, who wove and unpicked a shroud for years to hold her suitors off.
Where sources disagree: Ancient and modern sources split between pēnē, “thread, weft” — fitting the weaving — and pēnelops, a species of duck said in one myth to have rescued the infant Penelope. Neither reading is settled.
We follow the standard reference works on given names, and we say so plainly when a meaning is unsettled rather than choosing the prettiest one.
