A Nursery Rhyme for Oliver

A free, original lullaby written just for the name Oliver — ready to read tonight or turn into a keepsake poster.

Oliver's Starry Night

The silver moon is shining bright,

And fills your room with gentle light,

The little stars begin to peep,

To watch you as you fall asleep.

A starbeam lands upon your bed,

And sits like gold above your head,

Oliver, the night is kind,

With starry friends you'll always find.

The moon will guard you while you rest,

With starlight glowing on your chest,

Until the morning brings the sun,

Another lovely day's begun.

What does the name Oliver mean?

Origin — Norman French

From the Old French Olivier, borne by Roland’s companion in the Chanson de Roland.

Where sources disagree: It is read either as the Latin oliva, “olive tree”, or as a French reshaping of the Norse Áleifr (Olaf) under the influence of that word. Both are seriously argued.

We follow the standard reference works on given names, and we say so plainly when a meaning is unsettled rather than choosing the prettiest one.

A rhyme written around Oliver

Every BabyVerse verse is built around one name and its sound, so Oliver hears their own name carried through the meter rather than dropped into a blank. That is the whole difference between a keepsake and a personalised product: the words could not be reused for another child.

Parents read it at bedtime. Grandparents and godparents frame it. Either way it is the one gift on the table that no one else can duplicate — which is why it tends to outlast everything else in the pile.
