A Nursery Rhyme for Esther

A free, original lullaby written just for the name Esther — ready to read tonight or turn into a keepsake poster.

Little Star For Esther

The silver moon begins to glow

While gentle breezes softly blow

A tiny light begins to peep

While all the garden falls asleep

Dear Esther, see the velvet sky

Where golden sparks go dancing by

A million diamonds, bright and clear

To whisper that the night is here

The milky way is spinning slow

With a warm and steady glow

Rest your head in cozy light

Until the sun brings back the bright

What does the name Esther mean?

Origin — Persian

Most likely from the Persian stara, “star”.

Where sources disagree: A competing derivation links it to the Babylonian goddess Ishtar. The Book of Esther gives its heroine a Hebrew name, Hadassah, alongside this one, which is itself evidence of a foreign root.

We follow the standard reference works on given names, and we say so plainly when a meaning is unsettled rather than choosing the prettiest one.

A rhyme written around Esther

Every BabyVerse verse is built around one name and its sound, so Esther hears their own name carried through the meter rather than dropped into a blank. That is the whole difference between a keepsake and a personalised product: the words could not be reused for another child.

Parents read it at bedtime. Grandparents and godparents frame it. Either way it is the one gift on the table that no one else can duplicate — which is why it tends to outlast everything else in the pile.
