A Nursery Rhyme for Edward

A free, original lullaby written just for the name Edward — ready to read tonight or turn into a keepsake poster.

Edward's Starry Light

Edward lies where moonbeams play,

Soft silver light at end of day.

A star above the willow tree

Winks hello so tenderly.

Tiny Edward, small and new,

The velvet sky shines down on you.

Each star a lantern hung on high,

To guard you as the night drifts by.

Constellations softly gleam,

While Edward dreams his little dream.

The moon rocks low, a golden boat,

To sail him gently, soft and slow.

What does the name Edward mean?

Origin — Old English

From the Old English ēad, “wealth, fortune”, plus weard, “guardian”.

One of the very few Anglo-Saxon names to survive the Norman Conquest in common use, kept alive by the cult of Edward the Confessor.

We follow the standard reference works on given names, and we say so plainly when a meaning is unsettled rather than choosing the prettiest one.

A rhyme written around Edward

Every BabyVerse verse is built around one name and its sound, so Edward hears their own name carried through the meter rather than dropped into a blank. That is the whole difference between a keepsake and a personalised product: the words could not be reused for another child.

Parents read it at bedtime. Grandparents and godparents frame it. Either way it is the one gift on the table that no one else can duplicate — which is why it tends to outlast everything else in the pile.
